InterContinental Porto - Palácio das Cardosas, located in an 18th century building, offers a unique view over Avenida dos Aliados, one of the most emblematic squares of Porto. From its generous windows, guests can glimpse at the statue of Dom Pedro IV and the impressive town hall which reflects the true architectonic heritage of the city.
The building was originally designed to be a monastery on the 15th century. However, on the 18th century, due to the extinction of the religious orders in Portugal, the building was sold to Mr. Manuel Cardoso dos Santos, a wealthy bourgeois, that decided to move in with his family under the condition of maintaining the original facade. He eventually died a few years later, leaving this precious heritage to his daughters, known in society as “Cardosas”. That’s how the building became to be popularly known as “Cardosas Palace”, the house of the Cardosas sisters.
On July 2011, InterContinental Porto – Palácio das Cardosas opened its doors and immediately conquered the city. This was the first time locals had the chance to enter and visit Cardosas Palace and embrace e new hotel concept in the city. Its high ceilings, bright and wide spaces and impressive chandeliers give the hotel an elegant and dynamic aesthetics.
