DESCRIPTION & ITINERARY
Join archaeologists and anthropologists on an exploration deep into the Guatemalan jungle where a vast, ancient Mayan civilisation has remained hidden under the preservation of the forest for centuries.
Step back in time to the colonial city of Antigua where charming cobblestone streets are dotted with plazas, monasteries, convents and cathedrals. In the valley of three volcanoes, bike through coffee farms and Mayan villages enveloped by the forest reserve. Up on the verdant hills, spend the night in a specially-prepared camp to explore nature trails and birdwatch from hillsides teeming with exotic plant life.
Gain an authentic understanding of Mayan culture and syncretism through osmosis. At the sacred site of Lximche, a shaman will perform a traditional ritual in the hypnotising Mayan tongue. Make a customary visit to give offerings and ask favours from the statues of pagan saints. Don the painted wooden mask of a Moor and see the traditional baile de moros folkloric dance performed by local children.
Flores is the gateway to the lost cities of Tikal and El Mirador. From this island town you will fly by helicopter over the man-made, stony mountains of these ancient citadels. A renowned archaeologist will guide you through the ruins of this ancient metropolis. This is your chance to uncover remains so far unseen by the human eye.
From treasure-seeking to pleasure-seeking. Retreat to the idyllic private island of Cayo Espanto in Belize. In this Caribbean Zen, relaxation knows no bounds. Take a helicopter to Belize City over the cays and sand islands of Lighthouse Reef Atoll for a look into the abyss of the iconic blue hole. Dive Half Moon Caye – a natural reef wall of high density with diverse coral and marine life. Or simply move your living room outdoors and cast your cares away on your own private stretch of beach.
